International Tamil Rights Week 2011
The International Tamil Rights Week (TRW) 2011 is the first annual international series of events held in cities and campuses across the globe. The aim of TRW is to educate people about the plight of Tamils in Sri Lanka and their just political aspirations. The goal of the campaign is to build an international solidarity movement supporting the three nonnegotiable principles.
The first International Tamil Rights Week will take place in more than ten cities across the globe.
The aim of TRW is to contribute to the growing chorus of international opposition to Sri Lanka’s human rights record and to bolster support for the aspirations of the Tamil people: Recognition of the Tamil homeland, Recognition of Tamils as a nation, and the Recognition of the right to self-determination of the Tamils, a right enshrined in the United Nations.
Furthermore, the goal of TRW is to engage political leaders, thinkers, academics, human rights activists, and non-governmental organizations. Many of the efforts initiated during TRW highlight the importance and role that could be played by people and governments across the world in providing solidarity with the Tamil people by exerting urgent pressure on Sri Lanka and to recognize the political aspirations of the Tamil people.
The week’s events will include lectures, multimedia events, cultural performance, film screenings, demonstrations, and more.
Join us in making 2011 a year of struggle against oppression and for justice, equality, and peace.
